Flat CZ6
That’s how an apartment reborn in a characteristic Milanese multi-storey building from the 1960s. The project introjects the strong aesthetic of the building itself, with a clear "Giò Ponti" inspiration, in the composition and the surfaces of the new interiors, so as they are reconciled with the nature of the building.
The original distribution of the rooms, deliberately maintained, follows the traditional separation between main and service areas. The first ones, with a regular shape, are further expanded to meet the needs of contemporary living; the others, particularly oblong, are re-proportioned and made more functional. The hallways are reduced in favor of a new fluidity among the different areas.
The irregular geometry of the entrance space is redesigned by a combination of full-height openings and bookcases in niches. This “system” integrates the original doors of the house, relocated according to a new logic of the accesses, and is accentuated by a grey color that characterizes walls, doors and resin floor.
Materials and finishes contribute to the reinterpretation of the 60s style: in the living area a new oak wood floor resumes the tones of the old one, saved and restored in the sleeping area; geometric patterns characterize the service spaces, where resin surfaces are combined with the traditional element of the ceramic tile.
