DESIGN COMPETITION, TWO PHASES - THIRD PRIZE

The aim of the competition, launched by the Municipality of Lecco, is the redesign of the 10 km city's waterfront.
The proposed masterplan is strongly related to the urban fabric of the city. It originates from the transverse urban axes that already exist, among these: the streams, which act as ecological corridors, and the bridges over the River Adda.
The axes and the rhythm of the urban lots generate a matrix on which to create a system of platforms that advance and retreat on the water. The continuous shift of the coastline defines a zone of varying width between the built front boundary and the lake. This zone hosts a new linear park, an innovative energy infrastructure and a complex system of pedestrian, cycle and vehicle paths that connect the different levels.
Landings, bathing infrastructures, panoramic terraces and floating platforms make it possible to “live the water”. Vegetated islands colonize the water, conceptually reconnecting the mountain to the lake.
Furthermore the new linear park is enriched with a series of polarities that introduce new functions or regenerate existing ones.
The extreme accessibility of these polarities will be the key to activate the new waterfront.
